How To Turn Your Windows 7/8 Laptop Into A WiFi Hotspot?

Well, turning your PC or laptop into a wifi hotspot is very easy and just a few steps method. This can also be done by using a third party software, but I will show you the best method to make your PC a wifi hotspot without software that is using Command Prompt. This method works in almost all windows like Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 etc.

If you live far from home or in the hostel or something then you will probably require an internet connection to get connected with your friends and family. In that case, if you don’t have your own internet connection, then apparently you will want friend’s or colleague’s internet to share their network and get through the network access. Right?

In that case, the only solution we could think of is “WiFi Hotspot“. In today’s guide, I will show you how can you make your laptop a wifi hotspot.

Now, moving to the guide. Here, I have shown you complete steps with the screenshot by following that you will be easily able to turn your system into a WIFI hotspot.

Step 1: First of all open your search bar and type cmd. Then Right-click on it and select Run as Administrator. If any doubt, see the screenshot below.

Step 2: Once you click on run as administrator, the command prompt will open abruptly where all you have to do is type a command to create a WiFi Hotspot. But, before moving to create a hotspot connection, first you need to check if your computer supports hosted network or not. For that, you will have to type a command.

“netsh wlan show drivers”

And hit Enter. As sooner you press enter, you will see a result showing on screen just like I have shown in the screenshot.

If the result is shown “YES”, it means your system supports hosted network. And you can turn you PC into a wifi hotspot. As you can see in the screenshot the result is showing Yes! So moving to the next step now.

Step 3: Now once you have checked your system supports wifi hotspot. Type this command to create the wifi hotspot.

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=techclicko key=techclicko_123

and press Enter.

ssid = name of your network, you can write any name of your choice
key = Password of your network which should be minimum 8 characters you can write here anything

Step 4: Once you are done with creating the network, type another command i.e.

netsh wlan start hostednetwork”

And hit Enter. This command is used to start the connection you have created.

Step 5: Now, to share your internet connection with wi-fi hotspot, Go to Open network and sharing center and click on Change adapter settings.

Step 6: Now, to share the internet connection with wifi hotspot right click on your main network means the network connection which you use to connect to the internet and go to properties.

Step 7: Once you click on properties new window will open up where you will need to select the Sharing tab. Now in the Sharing tab, check the box “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s network connection. And select the wifi hotspot you just created. And click on OK.

That’s it! After clicking on OK, your laptop or PC will turn into a wifi hotspot immediately. Now you can connect as much as devices as you want.
